Grandma's Lawn Chair Pattern and Blog Hop

Pin ItHi Everyone and Welcome to my stop on the Grandma's Lawn Chair Pattern Blog Hop!

This pattern is from the lovely and talented Diane Bohn who blogs over at fromblankpages    This is her first quilt pattern and I was lucky enough to be able to test the pattern for her - and Wow! I am so excited to share my results with you! And offer you a great giveaway!

This pattern is well written, easy to construct and fast! What more can you ask for? I love the results! This was made with a wonderful FQ bundle of black/white and pinks from Chrissy and Linda over at Sew Lux Fabric which I purchased earlier this year. I just knew it was destined to be a little girls quilt! Hop on over and check out their fun selection of bundles, fabrics and notions!
The dark grey fabric is Kona Charcoal from my local JoAnn's. I really enjoy working with that color when I am looking for a big contrast! In photos it sometimes reads black but it really is a dark grey and compliments so many whites and bright prints.

On to the pattern- it has 3 sizes, baby, toddler and lap size; cutting diagrams, notes on cutting from different sizes of fabric -FQ, Fat eighth and yardage; tips for using directional print, lots of diagrams to help you with layout and it even includes a couple different color variations to give you a visual! If that isn't enough Diane has included a coloring page to ease your planning.

I made the original size baby quilt, it is a bit larger than what is now included in the pattern but just by one row in length and width - that is the beauty of this pattern - with the ease and simplicity of construction you can easily add or subtract a row to make the quilt larger or smaller depending upon your wants and needs.

I found the piecing and construction very easy compared to what the finished quilt looks like! Is that not the BEST!

For the back I found some wonderful prints at my LQS and decided to piece the back. I think it turned out well and really compliments the weave design on the front without being too much.

My finished quilt is square, my rows are square and lined up and my quilting is straight well not perfect but most of my quilting is straight LOL! I did quilt this with a walking foot with Aurifil 50 wt in a soft pearl grey - it's my favorite piecing and straight line quilting thread! You can check it out here for a great selection!  I did 1/4" from the seam lines both vertical and horizontal. And the binding well I just had to go with scrappy! l love the finished look it gives the quilt! All but the photo below were taken prior to washing but you can see in the binding below how nice and crinkly, cuddly it turned out after washing!

This quilt will be one that I hate to let go but it is destined to be part of Katie's 100 Quilts For Kids Charity Quilt Drive  I am hoping it will provide a little girl comfort and she will love and cherish it as much as I loved making it!  There is still time to make a quilt for this great cause and this pattern would be a perfect choice! Detailed, quick, and great results!

Quilt stats:
Size: 32 1/2in W x 44 in Long (post washing)
Made with FQ's and Kona Charcoal
Quilted with Aurifil #50 Mako 2600

  7. I like log cabin blocks. Nice neat ones or wonky ones or skewed ones. Single color, two color, all mixed up. There are so many options, which is part of the reason I like them.

  16. Hi, I love all your patterns. My go to quilt block is a scrappy star block. I start making them and just can't stop. Last year I made about eighty of them. They finish at twelve inches so I had enough for several quilts. I finished three and still have a ton of blocks left.

I'm just starting to quilt (working on my first quilt now) so I don't have a favorite block yet. The quilt I'm doing has 180 HSTs though so I'm getting good at making those!

  31. There are so many quilt designs to try I usually don't do the same pattern twice. Most of my quilts have featured a pinwheel of some sort. Lately, I've been appreciating the half square triangles and rectangles and their infinite possibilities. But when I saw 'Grandma's lawn chair', I want to make one!
