I did cut some on the short side but I still was able to turn them under. You can't really tell from the top! I do think using squares would add more fabric and another step of trimming, but just my humble opinion. Go for it! I am going to be away from my...I love your hexies! I am going to be away from my sewing machine for 3 weeks this summer and I'm looking for a portable hand sewing project to take with me. I'm planning on hexies and I have all the supplies, but I'm intimidated at cutting the fabric. I read somewhere that it's possible to make these with fabric squares (not cut into hexie shapes), but it seems like I'd still have a lot of bulk to cut off at the end.
